Senior Phase / City Campus Parent & Young people Information Event

Time : 7.00pm to 9.00pm


Venue: Harlaw Academy

Participants can choose 2 workshops to attend from the following:

1) Saks Hairdressing - Introduction to Hairdressing (Diploma) for pupils with a strong interest in the Fashion Industry/Hairdressing.

2) Robert Gordon University - ACCESS RGU is Robert Gordon University’s widening participation programme, enabling individuals who have the ability and potential to benefit from higher education, whatever their circumstances.

3) SHMU - This programme focuses on Employability Skills and Opportunities for young people with training in radio production and the film-making process. Pupils have the opportunity to gain SQA Awards in Radio Production (SCQF Level 5), Film Production (SCQF Level 5) and NQ Employability Award (SCQF Levels 3 and 4).

4) NESCol - North East Scotland College offer a wide range of Vocational and Curriculum Enhancement courses at a variety of levels to pupils in S4-S6.

5) Extended Work Placements - A Work Placement is an opportunity for pupils to experience the reality of working life for a period of time. The aim is for pupils to gain an insight into the world of work and have the opportunity to learn from the experience by being exposed to a variety of tasks and to the culture of the work place.

6) The Recruit - Delivered by Elevator (previously Enterprise North East Trust). SCQFLevel 3/4 Employability Award - The aims and objectives of the programme are to get the participants more work ready, help them understand the world of work, recognise their skills and abilities, develop them as young people and introduce them to business sectors and local companies.

7) Gaelic - Gaelic for Learners (National 4/National 5) delivered at Hazlehead Academy. Pupils do not need to have experience of Gaelic Language but are expected to be studying/have studied at least one other language at Higher level.

8) Travel Afternoons - Senior Phase pupils across the city are given the opportunity to study a range of Advanced Highers at two central locations that may not otherwise be available to them. Pupils completing courses outwith their home school gain both in academic achievement and social development.

9) City Moves Dance Agency - Higher Dance accepts male and female students from 5th and 6th year. Previous dance or drama experience is preferable. The course consists of a Technical Skills Unit and a Choreography Unit.

10) ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

These qualifications, at National 5 and Higher level, are specifically for candidates whose first language is not English. The courses develop and assess the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening in the following contexts:

- ESOL for everyday life

- ESOL in the context of work and study

11) SCHOLAR – SCHOLAR provides free access to high quality learning and teaching materials on the web. The content is written by experienced teachers and is strictly aligned with the new SQA CfE Curriculum including many Advanced Higher subjects. Schools have been provided with passwords to issue to all pupils studying at N5 level and above.
